Dr. Ajay Makhija has a Juris Doctor (JD) from Singapore Management University (SMU).

Dr. Ajay is a seasoned banker with almost 3 decades of experience across Asia and EMEA regions and has a deep understanding of both Emerging and Developed markets.

​

He served as the Board Member at Sambacapital from 2007 till 2017 and as the CEO/Group Head of the Global Consumer Bank at Samba Financial Group, Saudi Arabia, from 2006 till 2015. He has also served as Board member at Ambit Wealth , a leading wealth management firm in India from 2022-2025. Earlier Ajay also spent 16 years in various leadership roles at Citigroup across India, Africa and Singapore.

As a board member, he has overseen businesses in Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, Asset Management, M&A and Brokerage, Wealth Management  and has been a member of the Compliance and Control Committee and various Fund Board Committees. He has deep executive expertise in Consumer Banking, Private Banking, Consumer Lending , Credit Cards & Wealth Management.

In his role as practice trainee, he has assisted in areas of:

1. Criminal Litigation including offences under the Penal Code

   1. Sexual offences 

   2. Misuse of Drugs Act

   3. Voyeurism

   4. POHA

2. Civil litigation: including matters related to

   1. Misrepresentation, Breach of contract, Unjust enrichment 

   2. Acts that endanger life and safety of others

   3. Divorce and Ancillary matters

   4. Distribution of Estate

   5. Arbitration

Dr. Ajay, who is a Delhi University gold medalist for his MBA in 1989, has completed his Doctorate from the LKCSB at SMU (2021). Beyond his legal internship, he is an Adjunct Prof at  National University of Singapore (NUS) where he teaches Finance to postgraduate students at ISEM and teaches  Contemporary Affairs  in the Distinguished Senior Fellows Program (DSFP-NUS). He is also an Adjunct Faculty at SMU where he supports programs like Masters in Entrepreneurship & Innovation.
